the individual needs and goals of the person living with terminal illness
and/or a family member.

Medicare
certified hospice programs must provide training to their hospice volunteers
before they can work with families in need of support. Medicare regulations
require hospice programs nationwide to show that at least five percent of their
services were provided by hospice trained volunteers. In New Hampshire, hospice
volunteers give over 35,000 hours of their time each year.
For those
who volunteer - it is an honor, a privilege and a blessing to serve people at
end of life or in bereavement. Volunteers are invited into people’s lives at a
difficult time and hope to make that time a little easier. They often provide
friendly visits, rides to doctor appointments, respite for family members,
bereavement support or complimentary services such as Reiki, art, music or pet
therapy. Many hospices also provide volunteer vigil services.
